Ledge of Molten Flame is used in the quest Ritual of the Flame's Purification. Step near this area and if your graphics are set to medium or higher, you will see the firey walkway.
Should also state that it is a location discovery. I ran along the edge with my paladin (after doing the diety quest long ago with my wizard), jumped up on top of the invisible step-up, and received the discovery.
